SAP PLM
SAP PLM is SAP’s product lifecycle management solution, delivered as integrated capability inside SAP S/4HANA and complemented by SAP Engineering Control Center (ECTR) for CAD integrations. Its strength is the seamless data continuity from engineering through procurement, manufacturing, and finance on the same SAP platform.
Context
Unlike standalone PLM systems, SAP PLM lives inside the ERP. Variant Configuration (LO-VC), Document Management System (DMS), Classification, Material Master, and the change-management tools (DIR, ECR/ECO) are SAP modules used together as the engineering view of the enterprise data model.
What it implements
- Product Data Management via DMS and SAP ECTR.
- Variant Configurator through SAP LO-VC, the canonical configurable-product engine.
- Classification Schema through SAP Classification System.
- ERP-PDM Integration natively (no integration needed when CAD-managed data is published into SAP DMS).
- ECO / ECN via SAP Change Management.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Competes with Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE, Oracle Agile, and Aras Innovator in PLM deals where the customer prefers an ERP-centric data model.
Vendor
