Configurable BOM

Configurable BOM (also called the 150% BOM or super-BOM) is a single, parameterized product structure that contains every option, variant, and feature that could appear in a product family, plus the configuration rules that resolve a specific customer order into a single 100% buildable BOM.

What it covers

  • Option, variant, and feature classes organized as choosable dimensions.
  • Configuration rules — inclusion, exclusion, and dependency constraints across options.
  • Effectivity by configuration — components valid only when certain options are chosen.
  • Resolution to a 100% BOM at order entry, often via a Variant Configurator.
  • Mass-customization patterns — automotive, machinery, and configure-to-order electronics.
