Single-Level BOM

Single-Level BOM is the immediate-children view of a parent assembly — only the parts directly consumed at that assembly level, without exploding sub-assemblies. It is the natural editing view in PLM tools (you edit one level at a time) and the most common presentation for purchasing and supplier RFQs.

What it covers

  • Direct components and quantities for one parent assembly.
  • Procurement-friendly view where a buyer issues POs against the children of one assembly.
  • Editing workflow — most PLM UIs let an engineer edit a single-level structure and rely on system rollup for multi-level views.
  • Foundation for higher-order views — multilevel and flattened BOMs are derived from chained single-level relationships.
