Multilevel BOM
Multilevel BOM is the indented hierarchical view of a product structure that exposes every level of subassembly, component, and raw material in parent-child relationships. It is the most common BOM presentation in PLM and ERP systems and the basis for cost rollups, where-used queries, and explosion reports.
What it covers
- Indented parent-child structure with quantity-per and unit-of-measure at each level.
- Cost roll-up and weight roll-up propagated up the hierarchy.
- Where-used / pegging analysis — identifying every assembly that consumes a given component.
- Explosion to a single-level view for purchasing or to a flattened view for kit pulls.
- Counterpart to the single-level BOM that shows only one tier.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Part of the MBOM/EBOM BOM family.
- Supports BOM Management and Detailed Design.
- Implemented by every major PLM including Siemens Teamcenter, PTC Windchill, Dassault ENOVIA, and Aras Innovator.
