PLM Data Model
PLM Data Model is the logical data object that defines the canonical entities of product data — Item, Revision, BOM, Document, Change, Workflow, User, Project — and the relationships between them. It is the schema on top of which every PLM workflow, integration, and report is built.
What it covers
- Item / Revision / View as the foundational entities.
- Structures and relationships (occurrences, has-document, has-change, alternate-of).
- Lifecycle state machines governing transitions and approvals.
- Effectivity — date, unit, serial, and configuration-rule effectivity.
- Extensibility — custom subclasses, custom relationships, and metadata.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Supports the BOM Management, Configuration Management, End of Life and Disposal, and Manufacturing Execution processes.
- Implemented by systems like Aras Innovator (uniquely visible thanks to its open ItemType model).
- Specialized into the Part Master and the MBOM vs EBOM data objects.
