ISO 10007 (Configuration Management)

ISO 10007 is the international standard providing guidelines for configuration management as part of a quality management system. The current edition, ISO 10007:2017, supports applications from concept through disposal and aligns with ISO 9001 and ISO 9000 terminology.

Scope

ISO 10007 defines the core CM activities — configuration management planning, configuration identification, change control, configuration status accounting, and configuration audit — and the documentation expected at each stage. It is widely cited alongside EIA-649 and MIL-HDBK-61 in regulated industries (aerospace, defense, medical devices) and is referenced in supplier-quality clauses across automotive and energy.

Relationships (see sidebar)

  • Normative for logical artifacts including the Classification Schema (configuration-item identification) and the PLM Data Model (lifecycle and baseline structures).
  • Companion to ISO 14306 (JT) and ISO 10303 series in the engineering-data standards stack.
