Change Control Board (CCB)
Change Control Board (CCB) is the cross-functional decision body that reviews engineering change requests, evaluates impact, and authorizes (or rejects) changes to released configuration baselines. It is the human governance layer on top of the ECR/ECO/ECN data objects, sometimes called Change Review Board (CRB) or Engineering Review Board (ERB).
What it covers
- Membership spanning engineering, manufacturing, quality, supply chain, regulatory, and program management.
- Decision authority — approve, defer, escalate, or reject ECRs and ECOs.
- Risk- and value-based review — small low-risk changes pre-approved; safety- or regulatory-impact changes always heard.
- Governance over emergency changes and deviation requests.
- Configuration management discipline per ISO 10007, 21 CFR 820.30, AS9100, and IATF 16949.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Conforms to ISO 10007 configuration-management guidelines.
- Supports Change Management (ECO/ECN), Configuration Management, and Quality Management.
- Operates on ECRs, ECOs, and ECNs in the change discipline.
