Service and Maintenance
Service and Maintenance is the in-service phase process of keeping a delivered product performing across its operational life through inspections, scheduled maintenance, repairs, retrofits, and spare-parts provisioning. It typically lasts far longer than the design and build phases combined, and accounts for a large share of total lifecycle revenue and emissions.
Scope
The process spans technical publications (S1000D / iSpec 2200), service BOMs, configuration-aware spare-parts catalogs, condition-based and predictive maintenance fed by IoT/digital-twin telemetry, work-order execution, and warranty handling. Fleet-level data feeds back into engineering to drive reliability improvements, retrofits, and safety bulletins.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Realizes Regulatory Compliance (airworthiness, medical-device post-market) and Sustainability and Circularity via repair and life extension.
- Supported by logical capabilities such as Digital Twin and ALM Traceability.
- Hands off to End of Life and Disposal when the asset is retired.
