Siemens NX
Siemens NX is a commercial, integrated CAD/CAM/CAE software suite developed by Siemens Digital Industries Software. It is widely used across aerospace, automotive, industrial machinery, and consumer product industries for 3D design, simulation, and manufacturing programming.
Context
NX descends from Unigraphics (UG), one of the earliest commercial CAD systems. Siemens acquired UGS (Unigraphics Solutions) in 2007; the product has since been rebranded as “Siemens NX” and tightly integrated with Siemens’ broader PLM offering (Teamcenter).
What it implements
- CAD 3D Design — parametric, direct, and synchronous modeling.
- CAD Assembly, CAD Simulation, CAM Programming — implementations to be documented as separate logical capabilities.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Implements the CAD 3D Design logical capability.
- Competes with Dassault CATIA, PTC Creo, and SolidWorks (to be documented).
Vendor
Siemens Digital Industries Software (a division of Siemens AG).
