PTC Creo
PTC Creo is a commercial 3D parametric CAD product from PTC, the direct successor to Pro/ENGINEER (“Pro/E”), the system that essentially defined parametric, feature-based modeling in the late 1980s. Creo emphasizes parametric mechanical design, sheet metal, mold/cast, and embedded simulation, and integrates tightly with PTC Windchill.
Context
Pro/ENGINEER was first released in 1987 and rebranded to Creo in 2010 as PTC consolidated its CAD products. Creo Parametric is the headline application; Creo Elements/Direct provides direct (non-parametric) modeling, and the Creo+ SaaS edition delivers cloud-collaborative usage.
What it implements
- CAD 2D Drafting through the Detailing app.
- CAD Assembly with parametric assembly constraints.
- CAD Simulation through Creo Simulation Live (Ansys Discovery Live).
- STEP AP242 Data Exchange read/write.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Counterpart to Siemens NX and Dassault CATIA in the high-end CAD market; tightly paired with PTC Windchill.
