CAD 2D Drafting
CAD 2D Drafting is the logical capability of producing two-dimensional engineering drawings — orthographic projections, sections, details, and Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerancing (GD&T) — that communicate manufacturing and inspection intent. Even in a Model-Based Definition program, 2D drawings remain the legal record in many supplier contracts and regulated industries.
What it covers
- Orthographic and section views derived from the 3D model.
- Dimensioning and tolerancing per ASME Y14.5 or ISO GPS.
- Title blocks, revision blocks, BOM tables linked to the part master.
- Drawing release and revision control through the PLM workflow.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Supports the CAD Design process.
- Implemented by systems like Dassault CATIA, SolidWorks, and PTC Creo.
