Siemens Mendix
Siemens Mendix is a low-code application platform Siemens acquired in 2018 to give Xcelerator customers a way to extend Teamcenter, Opcenter, and Insights Hub with custom applications without standing up a separate dev team. Mendix is also used independently of Siemens products as a general-purpose enterprise low-code platform.
Context
Mendix provides a visual modeling environment, a runtime, and connectors to ERP/CRM/IoT data sources. Inside Xcelerator, it is the official extensibility tier — Active Workspace mashups, Teamcenter portal apps, and bespoke shop-floor apps are increasingly authored in Mendix instead of Java/Eclipse plug-ins.
What it implements
- Workflow Engine — process orchestration alongside the embedded Microflow engine.
- ERP-PDM Integration via the data-hub and connectors.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio (Siemens-extension tier).
- Competes with OutSystems, ServiceNow App Engine, and indirectly with PTC ThingWorx when used as the front-end of an industrial application.
Vendor
Siemens Digital Industries Software (acquired Mendix 2018).
