PTC Kepware
PTC Kepware (the KEPServerEX product, plus ThingWorx Kepware Edge and Kepware+) is the dominant industrial-connectivity gateway product on the market — over 150 protocol drivers spanning Modbus, Profinet, Ethernet/IP, S7, BACnet, and OPC UA, exposed through a unified server / namespace. PTC acquired Kepware in 2016 (~$100M) as the OT-side complement to ThingWorx.
Context
Kepware ships in three deployment modes: KEPServerEX (Windows server, the historical product), ThingWorx Kepware Edge (lightweight Linux container for edge gateways), and Kepware+ (cloud-managed). It is widely deployed even outside PTC ecosystems as the canonical multi-protocol OT bridge.
What it implements
- Industrial Connectivity — the flagship product in this category.
- IoT Platform — feeds ThingWorx and other IIoT platforms with normalized telemetry.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Competes with Siemens Brownfield Connect in industrial-connectivity deals; and AVEVA, Inductive Automation Ignition, and OPC UA-native PLC stacks.
Vendor
PTC, Inc. (acquired Kepware Technologies, 2016).
