PTC Codebeamer
PTC Codebeamer is an Application Lifecycle Management (ALM) product that PTC acquired from Intland Software in 2022 (~$280M). It targets safety-critical / regulated software development in automotive (ISO 26262), aerospace (DO-178C), medical devices (IEC 62304), and industrial-machinery domains, complementing Windchill on the systems-and-software side.
Context
Codebeamer is delivered as a single web application (no per-discipline silos): requirements, work items, tests, risk, and release management share the same data model and traceability graph. PTC positions it as the ALM piece of the broader Windchill / ThingWorx / Vuforia bundle, especially for OEMs that want a single vendor across hardware PLM and software ALM.
What it implements
- ALM Traceability — single-graph requirements ↔ work-items ↔ tests ↔ defects.
- Requirements Traceability Matrix with regulated-industry coverage reports.
- Workflow Engine — configurable approval and review processes.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Competes with Siemens Polarion, IBM ELM/DOORS, and Jama Connect.
- Often deployed with PTC Windchill in mixed hardware-software OEMs.
Vendor
PTC, Inc. (acquired Intland Software’s Codebeamer, 2022).
