Ansys
Ansys is the dominant independent simulation-software portfolio, spanning structural FEA (Mechanical, LS-DYNA), fluid dynamics (Fluent, CFX), electromagnetics (HFSS, Maxwell), optics, semiconductor, and embedded-systems simulation. Acquired by Synopsys in 2025 (announced 2024), it remains marketed under the Ansys brand.
Context
The company was founded in 1970 by John Swanson and is headquartered in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Its Workbench framework provides a unified pre/post-processing and multi-physics coupling environment across the FEA and CFD product lines, and “Discovery” provides designer-tier simulation tightly coupled to CAD.
What it implements
- Finite Element Analysis through Ansys Mechanical and LS-DYNA.
- Computational Fluid Dynamics through Fluent and CFX.
- CAD Simulation through Ansys Discovery (and the embedded Creo Simulation Live integration).
