OMG SysML v2
OMG SysML v2 is the next-generation Systems Modeling Language standardized by the Object Management Group. Adopted by OMG in 2023 (beta) and finalized in 2025, it replaces SysML 1.x’s UML profile with a first-principles language built on the Kernel Modeling Language (KerML), exposes a REST API for tool interoperability, and supports both textual and graphical notation.
Scope
The standard covers the abstract syntax (KerML), the SysML language layer, the model-services API, conformance requirements, and standard libraries. Its goals are stronger semantics than 1.x, machine-friendly textual syntax, and an interoperability layer that finally makes vendor tools exchange real models rather than diagram pictures.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Normative for the MBSE / SysML capability and the Requirements Traceability Matrix when realized through SysML requirement elements.
- Successor to OMG SysML 1.x; both are anchored at OMG.
