Dassault BIOVIA
Dassault BIOVIA is the life-sciences / chemistry / materials brand on the 3DEXPERIENCE platform, descending from the 2014 Accelrys acquisition. It covers molecular modeling and simulation (Discovery Studio, Materials Studio), scientific data management (Pipeline Pilot), electronic lab notebooks (BIOVIA ELN), and lab informatics for pharma, biotech, materials, and consumer-product R&D.
Context
Accelrys was itself the product of decades of consolidation (Symyx, MDL, Aspen Tech informatics, Pharmacopeia software). After the Dassault acquisition the brand was relaunched as BIOVIA in 2014 and progressively delivered as 3DEXPERIENCE roles. It anchors Dassault’s life-sciences offering alongside the separately-acquired Medidata clinical-trials business.
What it implements
- 3D Design — molecular and materials modeling at the atomistic scale.
- Workflow Engine — Pipeline Pilot scientific workflow authoring.
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Part of Dassault 3DEXPERIENCE.
- Adjacent to but distinct from Medidata — BIOVIA is R&D / pre-clinical, Medidata is clinical trials.
Vendor
Dassault Systèmes (Accelrys acquisition, 2014).
