MOM

MOM (Manufacturing Operations Management) is the ISA-95 Level 3 superset of MES — the operational layer between ERP scheduling and shop-floor control that orchestrates production, quality, maintenance, and inventory in real time. Where MES historically focused on production execution, MOM adds the surrounding operations — quality (LIMS-adjacent), reliability/maintenance, and warehouse/inventory at the plant tier — and is the layer that consumes the MBOM and routings from PLM.

What it covers

  • Production operations — order release, dispatching, tracking, and as-built data collection.
  • Quality operations — in-process checks, NCR creation, hold/release, SPC.
  • Maintenance operations — work orders, condition-based triggers, calibration.
  • Inventory operations — WIP, kanban, replenishment at the plant.
  • ISA-95 boundary with ERP above (Level 4) and PLC/SCADA/HMI below (Levels 1–2).
