Siemens EDA
Siemens EDA is Siemens’ electronic design automation portfolio — the renamed Mentor Graphics business after the 2017 acquisition. It covers IC design (Calibre sign-off, Veloce emulation, Tessent test/DFT, Catapult HLS), PCB design (Xpedition, PADS, Hyperlynx), and IC package design — alongside the E/E systems Capital product line.
Context
Mentor Graphics was one of the “big three” EDA vendors before the Siemens acquisition. The brand shifted to Siemens EDA in 2021. Calibre dominates physical sign-off in advanced-node ASIC and SoC tape-outs, and the PCB tools (Xpedition / PADS) are widely used in mil-aero and high-reliability electronics.
What it implements
- EDA / IC Design — IC sign-off (Calibre), emulation (Veloce), test (Tessent), high-level synthesis (Catapult), and PCB layout (Xpedition / PADS).
- Electrical Systems Engineering through the Capital product line (now grouped under Siemens EDA at the corporate level).
Relationships (see sidebar)
- Part of the Siemens Xcelerator portfolio.
- Major competitors outside this KB: Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys.
Vendor
Siemens Digital Industries Software (Siemens EDA business; formerly Mentor Graphics).
